To most, the idea of running round the block can seem daunting. Just imagine then swimming nearly 4km, a bike ride of 180km – from KL almost to Ipoh – and then a full 42.2km marathon on top of that! All in the same day! That is the Ironman, widely regarded as one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world. And that is exactly what our Group CTO Chia Yong Wei did recently. Here’s more on this amazing achievement.
“The race was pure pain and pleasure. This was my first Ironman event and I had trained for 9 months. I managed to finish in 13hrs 10mins and 24sec, comfortably ahead of the 16hr 30mins cut-off. It is extremely satisfying have completed it. It really goes to show that anything is possible if you have the mindset, the will and desire to do it.
“Juggling work, family and 12 to 15 hours of training a week was no easy task. The long training hours may seem like a distraction, but I think that is a positive thing. It takes you away from your day-to-day and gives you a new perspective on things. It’s good to create space for thinking time in our day-to-day lives, if not to reflect at least to stay healthy!”
